Most people start thinking about Christmas lights the week of Thanksgiving. By then, the install dates most people want are already taken. If you only remember one thing from this guide: the best time to book is before you feel like it's time.
How the season actually runs
Professional holiday lighting has a short, crowded calendar. Nearly every customer wants their lights on by the first week of December, and there are only so many install days between Halloween and then.
Here's the rough shape of a season in South Florida:
- September and October — the planning window. Quotes are quick, measurement visits are easy to schedule, and you have your pick of install dates.
- Early to mid November — installs begin. Booking now usually still gets you lit before Thanksgiving, but the most popular dates start to disappear.
- Late November — the rush. Everyone who waited is calling the same week, and the remaining dates tend to be later than people hoped.
- December — whatever is left. Some homes still get done, but you're fitting into gaps rather than choosing a date.
Our own installs are typically scheduled in November through early December, with pre-orders placed on the calendar first.
Why booking early doesn't mean lighting early
A common worry is that reserving in October means having Christmas lights up in October. It doesn't. Reserving holds your place in line; you still choose when in the season the lights go up.
Plenty of people book in early fall, have the display installed in mid November, and simply leave it off until the night they want it on.
What makes Miami different
In most of the country, weather pushes installs earlier — nobody wants to be on a roof in the snow. South Florida has the opposite pattern. Our fall is still warm and wet, and the weather gets better for outdoor work as the season goes on, with drier, cooler days arriving in November.
That means there's no weather reason to rush an early install here. The only real pressure is the calendar itself: a fixed number of crews, a fixed number of days, and a lot of homes that all want to be glowing by the same weekend.
What happens between booking and install day
Booking isn't the last step, which is another reason to give yourself some room. With us, the process looks like this:
- Instant quote online. You answer a few questions about your home and see your price right away.
- Free in-person measurement. We come out, measure, and confirm the exact price before anything is installed.
- Install date locked in. Once the measurement is done, your date goes on the calendar.
- Installation, then maintenance all season. If a section goes dark, we come back and fix it.
- Takedown in January. Included, and we take everything with us.
The measurement visit and the materials both take a little lead time. Booking with a few weeks of margin keeps all of that relaxed instead of rushed. You can read the full process here.
A simple rule of thumb
- Want to be lit before Thanksgiving? Book by mid October.
- Want to be lit by the first weekend of December? Book by early November.
- Planning a custom display, or lighting a business or community? Start in September or early October — these take more design time. See commercial and HOA lighting.
These are guidelines, not guarantees — every season fills a little differently — but they'll keep you out of the late-November scramble.
The bottom line
Getting a price costs you nothing and takes about two minutes. If you're even considering professional lights this year, get your instant quote now and decide with the number in front of you, while the good dates are still open.
