Search "Christmas light company near me" in Miami in October and you'll find everything from established lighting crews to someone who bought a ladder last week. From the outside, the photos all look the same. The difference shows up in December — when a section goes dark, or the crew shows up late, or January comes and nobody answers the phone.
These ten questions sort that out quickly. You can ask them by phone, in a quote request, or at a design visit.
1. Are you insured?
People will be working at height on your property. Ask for liability coverage, and don't be shy about it — a professional company expects the question.
Good answer: a clear yes, and they'll send proof if you ask.
2. Who actually does the installation?
Some companies sell the job and hand it to whoever is available. Ask whether the crew installs holiday lighting regularly, or is seasonal day labor.
3. Do I buy the lights, or do you supply them?
This changes the whole deal. If you buy them, you own them — and you store them, replace the dead ones, and you're locked into the color you chose. If the company supplies them, ask whether they're commercial-grade or store-bought.
4. How will you attach the lights to my roof?
Most Miami and Broward homes have tile roofs. Listen for clips made for tile, gutters and shingles — and no nails, screws or staples in the roof or fascia. Ask how they work on tile without walking on it.
5. What happens if lights go out mid-season?
Lights fail sometimes — a bulb, a connection, a section after a storm. Ask:
- Are repairs included, or billed as a service call?
- How fast do they come out?
- Does that cover weekends?

6. Is takedown included?
Some quotes cover installation only, and January becomes a second bill — or a phone that stops being answered. Ask whether takedown is included and whether they haul everything away.
7. Is the price you quote the price I pay?
Ask exactly what could change it. A fair answer is specific: adding to your display, or your home being materially different from what you described. "We'll see when we get there" is not a price.
8. Will I see the design before you install?
Ask whether you'll get a mockup or a plan you approve first — especially if you have an HOA that needs to sign off. We create a mockup with you at a free design visit (or on a quick call) before anything goes up.
9. When can you install, and how do you schedule?

10. What happens to my deposit if I cancel?
Get this in writing before you pay anything. Ask when the deposit becomes non-refundable.
Red flags
- No written quote, or a quote that doesn't list what's included.
- Cash only.
- Pressure to decide today.
- Vague answers about insurance, repairs or takedown.
